Overview
The use of rapid antigen tests has gained widespread acceptance as an alternative method for diagnosis of COVID-19 outside of health care settings.
These tests differ from molecular tests such as PCR, because they are designed to detect the presence of viral proteins using simple immunochromatography methods, commonly referred to as lateral flow assays. Rapid antigen tests target the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein, the most abundant protein expressed by the virus.
Rapid antigen tests offer a number of advantages over molecular assays. Testing can be deployed outside of hospital laboratories, and many can be performed by members of the general public.
They have a turnaround time as fast as 15 minutes, allowing for testing prior to entrance into congregate care facilities or other public settings.
Benefits
1- Rapid test for covid within 15minutes.
2- Facilitates patient?s treatment decisions quickly.
3- Simple, time saving procedure.
4- Cost effective.
5- No instrumentation required.
6- High sensitivity and specificity.
When to Use
1- Patients with symptoms.
2- Before attending meetings, parties or gatherings.
3- Before entering medical facilities or hospitals.
Diagnostic kit includes
1- Test cassette
2- Sterile swab
3- Extraction buffer
Specimen collection
1- Sanitize your hands and the surface used for testing prior to test.
2- Blow your nose prior to swab test.
3- Open the nasopharyngeal swab with breakpoint.
(Do not touch the sterilized cotton top)
4- Carefully insert the swab into the nostrils of the patient, reaching the surface of posterior nasopharynx.(both nostrils)
5- Swab over the surface of the posterior nasopharynx, rotate the swab several times.
6- Withdraw the swab from the nasal cavity.
Test procedure
1- Place the device on a flat surface
2- Place specimen, swab, into the extraction solution, mix the swab for 10 times, around 1 minute.
3- Remove the swab while pressing against the solution tube to extract most of the specimen.
4- Add 4 drops into the sample cassette (S).
5- Wait 15-20min, interpret the test results.
Interpretation of the result
1- Negative result: only one line in the control (C)
2- Positive result: two lines appear in the test, test line (T) and control line (C)
3- Invalid result: only one line appear in the test line (T) or if no line appears at all.
Storage and Expiration
The kit can stored at room temperature or refrigerated (2-30C).
Do not freeze any of the test components.
Do you use after expiry date.
